This may be due to higher levels of fertility hormones like oestrogen and hCG directly after a pregnancy loss. However, other studies have shown no difference in fertility rates after miscarriage compared to the general population.
It's important not to put pressure on yourself to start trying again before you feel ready. Give yourself time to physically and emotionally heal. Your doctor can advise you on when your body has recovered enough to try conceiving again.
Looking After Yourself

Most doctors recommend waiting at least 1-3 normal menstrual cycles after a miscarriage before trying to conceive again. However, speak to your GP if you experience any of the following:
- No period after 6 weeks
- Prolonged heavy bleeding
- Fever or chills
- Severe pain
This may indicate an infection or another complication requiring medical care.
Give your body and mind time to heal after a pregnancy loss. While some research suggests a short-term boost in fertility, there is no need to rush into conceiving again before you feel emotionally and physically ready. Prioritise your health and wellbeing, and speak to your doctor about when to try again.
